Professional Development encompasses a broad range of opportunities to include: focused learning on deepening teachers' content knowledge and pedagogical skills including research and reflection; imbedded learning with educators' work and practice; sustained efforts over time; and collegiality and collaboration. Moreover, the overall goal of professional development for teachers and administrators must be to improve student results, as well as enhance professional practice.

The primary focus of the Department of Professional Development is to be flexible, fluid, and responsive to emerging and newly-implemented federal, state, and PGCPS mandates, curricular changes, and issues that impact the delivery of instruction.

Additionally, the Department of Professional Development works with all schools in order to meet state and national standards. The Department provides training in order to transform the instructional delivery and create an environment of success for all.
