Homeland Security & Military Science
Academy Overview 
The Academy of Homeland Security and Military Science provides students with a rigorous academic environment and practical application of their acquired skills to prepare them for a variety of careers in both the public and private sector of industries that serve and protect the citizens of the United States of America. The programs of study encourage career exploration and challenges students to demonstrate competence, confidence and leadership. Program outcomes include: development of scientific, mathematical, and technological communication skills; demonstrated understanding of one's social and civic responsibility; the ability to articulate a global perspective; and self-management and wellness.

Programs of Study 
The Academy of Homeland Security and Military Science features the following four programs of study:

Military Science 

Academy of Military Science (AMS) is a unique blend of academic preparation of cadets for college and the work force, while providing students an applicable understanding of the fundamental concepts of citizenship, leadership, service, teamwork, self-discipline and self-reliance through participation in Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC).

Cadets will have the opportunity to earn nine (9) college credits through the “Adams State University College Credits for Cadets” program. Participation in AMS incurs no obligation to join the Armed Forces.

Recommended World Languages: Arabic, Chinese, or Russian.

Homeland Security Science

The Homeland Security Science Pathway integrates government, academia, and private sector training and educational initiatives to help students understand how the United States and its interests worldwide are protected against threats to public safety. Classroom experience and capstone exercises allow students to demonstrate knowledge and proficiencies for career positions with various agencies and organizations associated with Homeland Security.

Recommended World Languages: Arabic, Chinese, or Russian.

Information/Communications Technology

The Information/Communications Technology pathway is focused on Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing through the SPACE and STARS certification programs. Students in the program are immersed in a functional area within Homeland Security related to the protection of critical infrastructure. The program also exposes students to the nation's defensive measures against catastrophic threats during the emergency management and preparedness process,

IT Networking Academy CISCO (Cybersecurity)

Students enrolled in the IT Networking Academy CISCO (Cybersecurity) pathway focus on integrated computer threat detection and defense, cloud computing, data center security, identity-based network solutions, and highly secure remote access. As one of the fastest growing fields in IT and security, the pathway offers excellent career opportunities.
