This letter serves to remind, inform, or update you on recent changes you need to keep in mind, as well as solicit your support, to ensure a safe and effective learning environment for all students. Thank you, in advance, for your support.
Taking Photos as School Events
While we certainly understand the excitement of seeing your child at a school event and recognize your desire to photograph and celebrate your student’s accomplishments, taking pictures of students, other than your own, at school sponsored events is strictly prohibited, without parent consent. We urge all visitors while taking pictures at school events to be mindful and ensure no other student is captured in the background of your pictures. We strongly recommend and kindly ask you not post pictures of other students at school related events on your social media accounts.
PGCPS Volunteer/Chaperone Policy
We fully recognize the importance of family involvement in our school’s success. We are only as strong as our partnership between the school and the community.
Trying to balance the push for family involvement and the maintenance of student safety can be challenging at best. With this in mind, please understand, student safety comes first.
ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURE 4215 - G-VOLUNTEERS
All volunteers - such as mentors, interns, tutors and chaperones - must undergo a fingerprint background check and child protective services clearance at least 14 days in advance of the day field trip, overnight trip, or activity on or off school property.
A fingerprint background check must be initiated through the PGCPS Fingerprinting Office before performing duties and the child protective services clearance must be initiated through Human Resources.
Exception(s) - a.
Volunteers do not have to complete a fingerprint background check if they are escorted and under the supervisions of a PGCPS [employee] at all times while on the campus for a one-time event, such as parent/guardians, volunteering for career day, book fairs, school dances, etc.
We encourage parents to participate in our school events in and out of the building. However, keep in mind, student safety first. For additional information on school practices and procedures, please see our Parent Handbook by clicking the Handbook/Newsletter link.
