As summer comes to an end, we begin to look forward to an exciting new school year. It’s now time to consider school supplies, uniforms and other school related matters. If you are reading this letter it means you are visiting our school website. Take a look at the school supply list(s), mandatory uniform colors, and the Parent/Student Handbook. As you review each item, take a little extra time to familiarize yourself with the contents of the Handbook. Reviewing this document early will help ensure your year is successful.
Please pencil these dates on your calendar. Please be on time.
Head Start Orientation: Thursday, August 18, 2016 (8am - 9am).
Kindergarten and Pre-K Orientation: Thursday, August 18, 2016 (12pm – 1pm).
New Parent Orientation: Thursday, August 18, 2016 (1pm – 1:30pm).
First Day of School: Tuesday, August 23, 2016 (7:30am – 1:55pm).
Back-to-School Night: Thursday, September 8, 2016 (6pm).
Parents who wish to accompany students to school on the first day are welcomed to do so. However, we ask that all visit end by 8:00am so teachers can begin the work of establishing relationships with their students. A post card letting you know your child’s teacher and the room where she/he is to report will be mailed to you the week of August 15.
Please don’t forget to follow all established procedures including dropping off and picking up cars riders at the bottom of the hill during arrival and dismissal times. Parents may not drive into the circle during morning and afternoon dismissal. The circle is reserved for bus drop off and pick up.
Our bell schedule remains the same 7:45 – 1:55 (Students may arrive at 7:30 am. for breakfast).
Students are expected to come to school prepared to learn on Day One.
Students are expected to be in uniform.
Students are expected to have learning supplies.
All students may eat breakfast free of charge.
If students received Free/Reduced lunch last year, lunch will be served Day One at last year’s cost unless otherwise informed.
Students will be dismissed promptly at 1:55pm. Parents whose students ride the bus may visit the PGCPS website, under Parent link and view Bus Stop Search. Follow the prompt and see your child’s bus stop information and please be at the bus top at least 10 minutes before the scheduled arrival time. Parents of car riders and walkers are to wait at the bottom of the hill. We ask that no parent wait in the lobby for students.
Finally, Parents who have not yet registered their students are urged to do so immediately. Waiting until the start of school will prove frustrating. Registration is a process and cannot be rushed. Your child is not fully registered until all forms are completed, all documentation is submitted, and the student is entered into the student information system (School Max). Please visit the website or call the school to ensure you have all pertinent registration documentation prior to registering your student. Please inform family, friends, and neighbors to do likewise. Again, I welcome you and look forward to a great school year!
