Our Policy 


Parkdale parents, students, teachers, and administrators formulated the student dress policy for Parkdale High School. It reflects standards held in common by the Parkdale Learning Community and incorporates the Prince George’s County Public Schools System-Wide Dress Code for Students.

 

It is highly recommended that all students wear uniforms with Parkdale logos. These uniforms may be purchased at Campus Outfitters in College Park, MD.



Slacks: All slacks must be appropriately sized to eliminate bagging or sagging. Slacks are worn at the natural waistline. The links below show what is available through Campus Outfitters. Female and male students wear solid colored slacks in:

• Khaki (Tan)
Shorts: Male students wear solid colored short slacks that must be at least 12 inches below the buttocks.Male students wear solid colored short slacks in:

Skorts or Skirts: Female students wear solid colored skorts and/or mid-calf skirts that are worn at the natural waistline. The links below show what is available through Campus Outfitters. Female wear solid colored skorts and skirts in:

Shirts: Shirts must be tucked into the pants, skirts, skorts, or shorts. The links below show what is available through Campus Outfitters. Female and male students wear solid colored shirts and may choose long or short sleeves in:

Belts: Female and male students wear solid colored belts in:

• Black or brown
No ornamental belts (i.e. bullets/metals, no designs); No electronic belt buckles or buckles that display graphics.

Socks: Socks worn with skirts must be ankle fold down or knee length. Female and male students wear solid colored socks in:
• Black
• Dark Green
• Brown
• White
Socks displaying designs or graphics are unacceptable.

Tights: Female students wear solid colored tights in:
• Black
• Dark Green
• Brown
• White
Tights displaying designs, graphics, fish-net holes, etc. are unacceptable.

Shoes: Female and male students wear solid colored shoes, tennis shoes, and boots in:
• Solid black (including logo)
• Solid Brown (including logo)
• Heels on shoes should be no taller than 1 inch
Head Coverings: As is stated in the PGCPS System-Wide Dress Code for Students, “Headdress may be worn indoors for religious or health reasons only.”

OPTIONAL: Blazers, sweaters, and fleece jackets. Female and male students wear these solid colored items in:

• Dark Green

Special Note: Light outer wear (i.e. jean jackets, fleece jackets, sweat shirts/jackets, etc..) other than the above optional items are not permitted.

Neckties (optional): Solid colored neckties worn with Oxford shirts only.

These styles and fabrics are NOT permitted:

• No visible labels or logos on any article of clothing are allowed. (ONLY Parkdale High School logos are permitted on students’ uniforms)
• No stretch, tight, or form-fitting clothing
• No baggy slacks
• No jeans or denims
• No hood clothing
• No cropped shirts
• No slippers, flip-flops, mules or open toe shoes
• No blazers or sweaters around the waist
• No “creative” (cut-out holes, rips, drawings, etc..) alterations to any clothing
• No sunglasses are to be worn inside the building.

Exemptions (New Students):
Students who are new to the school after the first day of school will be allowed a grace period of ten (10) school days to comply with the Parkdale High School Mandatory Uniform Policy.

Financial Hardship:
Parents or guardians who are not able to purchase the mandatory uniform due to financial hardship must submit a letter of explanation to the Principal. The Principal and Chair for the Uniform Committee will review hardship requests to determine the assistance needed for the parents/guardians. Parents or guardians will receive a response within ten (10) days of the request for assistance.

Opt-Out Process in a Mandatory Uniform School: (PGCPS Administrative Procedure No. 600)

1. Parents or guardians who disagree with the adopted mandatory school uniform policy may opt-out of participation in this new requirement for the duration of this program at that school.

2. Parents or guardians shall complete the Application for Exemption from Mandatory School Uniform Program Form (PGIN 7540-3500) within forty-five (45) days after their child has been assigned to the school, after the school year has commenced.

3. A student whose parents(s) have exercised their right to opt-out of the mandatory school uniform program at the school will be reassigned through established procedures to another school. Transportation will not be provided.
