  • STEM Day # 3: OHES Students Apply Their Engineering and Imagination Skills to Build a Roller Coaster
    Friday, April 8, 2016 was a most exciting day for all of our students, grades K - 6, at Oxon Hill Elementary School!  It was our third, all day school-wide STEM activity day. Students used their knowledge on force and motion, along with their engineering and imagination skills to collaboratively design a plan in words, sentences and pictures for the strategy they would use in building a roller coaster that a marble would be able to move successfully through from the entrance to exit without stopping. 
    Multi-Cultural Night and Dance Celebration - A Crowd Swelling and Cultural Food Tasting Event and Delight
    Oxon Hill Elementary School hosted its annual Multi-Cultural and Dance Celebration event on Tuesday, March 22, 2016.  Over 388 parents and families were in attendance.  The beckoning aroma from the different cultural foods presented in each of our area hallways saw long lines awaiting to taste and enjoy.  
    Black History Program - The Harlem Renaissance Remembered and Celebrated
    Oxon Hill Elementary School's annual Black History Program occurred on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at 7:00 pm.  Over 193 parents and students along with many of our teachers participated in this event.  
    Student Leadership Conference - Quarter 3 - Academic Work Progress Shared with Boldness and Passionate Pride
    Twenty-five teacher selected student leaders from grades K to 6 excitedly converged in the Results Room to share their work and talk about how much they had learned since our first meeting in September 2015. 
    OHHS Seniors Partner with Our School to Judge STEM Fair Projects
    Yolanda King, Science/STEM Coordinator, for Oxon Hill High School brought over more than10 dedicated and willing Seniors to help us judge our students' STEM Fair projects.They listened to and asked questions as each student discussed their STEM project with them. 
    Commit to Be Fit Family Night Energized Healthier Life Styles for All
    On Tuesday, January 12, 2016, over 152 parents, students and teachers participated in a variety of activities designed to educate about the importance of health-related fitness and healthy lifestyles. 
    NASA Partner Cognitively Stimulates Teachers with STEM PD
    Monday, December 14, 2015 and Tuesday, December 15, 2015 were no ordinary days at Oxon Hill Elementary School.  NASA Partner Leslie Garrison provided two and one-half hour, STEM professional development sessions to our teachers by grade levels Kindergarten, First and Second, Third and Fourth, Fifth and Sixth.
    Music Stirred Hearts at Annual Winter Concert Celebration!
    The atmosphere on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 as parents and students began arriving before the 7:00 m start time for our annual Winter Concert Celebration, was one of great anticipation and excitement! 
    More Books Please - Reading Pajama Night: Always an Heart-Warming Success
    Over 147 parents and students participated in Oxon Hill Elementary School's annual "More Books Please" - Reading Pajama Night event on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at 7:00 pm.  Students came dressed in their PJs and securely clutching their blankets and/or favorite stuffed animals.  Reading was the theme of the night. 
    STEM Family Night Event Ignites Students' Engineering Skills and Imagination
    Over 129 parents and students descended upon Oxon Hill ES at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 with anticipation and excitement.  First they learned about the requirements for STEM Fair Projects and then were released to the hands-on/minds-on, STEM activity work stations.

    Friday, November 6, 2015 found all students at Oxon Hill Elementary school actively engaged in an all day STEM activity event. It was amazing to see our students perform as engineers, using their imagination, literacy and numeracy skills to create and test their inventions.

    Wednesday, November 4, 2015 marked Oxon Hill Elementary School's first all day Literacy and Numeracy parent engagement day with their children in their classrooms, as they learned. 
    Hope for Humanity: Business Partner Donates Brand New Winter Coats for Students in Need at Oxon Hill ES
    Friday, November 6, 2015 at 1:30 pm will be a day to be forever remembered by many students at Oxon Hill ES.  It was on this day that another one of our school's business partners came and donated brand new, winter coats in rainbow bright colors to our students in need. 
    Annual Book Character Parade - A Literacy Based Fun Time for All
    The atmosphere at Oxon Hill Elementary school on Thursday, October 29, 2015 was one of excitement, costume thrills and squeals of delight as picture-taking parents and marching students dressed up as they favorite book character with book in hand. 
    Men Make a Difference Day at Oxon Hill ES
    Monday, October 12, 2015, saw over 30 men come to our school and spend time in the classrooms with their children.
    Walden University Partners with Oxon Hill ES to Beautify Our School
    Oxon Hill ES was ecstatic when Walden University selected to partner with us in joint efforts to beautify our school grounds.  This exciting event occurred on Friday, October 16, 2015 from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm.

    Oxon Hill Elementary School's annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration family night occurred on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 7:00 pm. 
    Annual PBIS and Student Attendance Family Night Event- Committed Parents, Amazing Turn Out, No Empty Seats
     Oxon Hill Elementary School's annual PBIS/Student Attendance family night event occurred on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at 7:00 pm.  The harder it rained, the more parents and their children came. By7:25 pm, our cafeteria was filled to capacity with committed and eager to participate parents and families. 
    Huge Crowd of Over 254 Parents and Students Attends Back-to-School Night
    Despite the weather alert for thunderstorm and pouring rain, over 254 parents and students  came for Oxon Hill Elementary School's Back-to-School held on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 7:00 pm.  
    Blue Sky Puppet Theatre Presents PBIS - the Oxon Hill's Way (Being Respectful, Responsible, Safe and Prepared)
    All students at Oxon Hill Elementary School excitedly convened in the gymnasium on Wednesday, September 26, 2015 to engage in song and minds with Blue Sky Puppet Theatre's interactive presentation on Conflict/Resolution on the bus, in the classroom, cafeteria, and playground. 
    Oxon Hill ES Students Post Math Learnings - Using Numeracy for Reasoning and Solving Problems
    Building Literacy and Using Numeracy for math reasoning and solving math problems is the instructional focus at Oxon Hill Elementary School.  All students gathered once again in the gymnasium on Friday, September 28, 2015 to engage in hands-on, minds-on learning with Blue Sky Puppet Theatre as they presented "Sand Castles" - an interactive puppet show that focused on using math knowledge in real life situations to reason accurately and solve mathematical problems. 
    Overjoyed Students, Staff and Parents Accept Donations of School Supplies from Committed Business Partner
    The Southminster Prebysterian Church, one of Oxon Hill Elementary School's faithful, business partners, took our school supply list from each grade level and purchased school supplies including new backpacks which were fully stocked, for our students.  
    Meet & Greet Escalates Excitement for New School Year 2015-2016
    Oxon Hill Elementary school held its Annual Meet & Greet event on Thursday, August 20, 2015 from 4:00 to 5:00 pm.  Excitement filled the air as parents met their children's teachers and room locations prior to the first day of school for students, August 25, 2015.

    PARCC Testing Begins for Grades 3 - 6
