    Field Day 2014 occurred on Friday, June 6, 2014 at Oxon Hill Elementary School.  Balmy weather cloaked this all day event as students, staff and parents immersed themselves in games, competitive sports, arts and crafts, food, then happy exhaustion at day's end.

    Student Authors and Writers' Celebration: Common Core Writing Standard in Action
    Student authors, grades kindergarten to six, at Oxon Hill Elementary School, celebrated their published work before a live audience of peers, teachers and parents, on Friday, May 29, 2014.
    Hoops for Dad - Annual Event
    On Friday, May 2, 2014 at 2:00 pm, 90 fathers, grandfathers, uncles and other significant adult males descended upon Oxon Hill Elementary School to spend bonding time with their children, shooting hoops.  It was a joy to see!
    Mothers' Tea - Annual Event Celebrating Mothers
    On Friday, May 9, 2014 at 2:00 pm over 160 mothers, grandmothers, aunts and other significant women in the lives of our children descended upon our school to participate in Mothers' Tea.  
    Health Extravaganza - Annual Event Promoting Healthy Living
    Over 300 parents, students and vendors participated in Oxon Hill Elementary school's annual Health Extravaganza event on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 7:00 pm.

    A greatly anticipated event occurred on Tuesday morning, April 29, 2014 at 9:45 am in the gymnasium of Oxon Hill Elementary School. 
    Career Day: Awakening Students' Minds to Their Future
    Monday, April 7, 2014 was Career Day at Oxon Hill Elementary School.  The cold, rainy weather did not prevent over 50 presenters from a variety of career paths to come and enthusiastically talk to our students; awakening their minds to the future and how they can be of service to mankind.  
    Inspiring Black History Program: Bridging the Past, Embracing the Future, March 20, 2014
    Over seventy (70) parents, students and staff participated in Oxon Hill Elementary School's Black History Program Family Night Event on Thursday, march 20, 2014 at 7:00 pm.
    Parents View Their Stakeholder Survey Results Budget Meeting Night March 12th and Week of March 17, 2014
    Two hundred and eighty three (283) parents/stakeholders completed the PGCPS Strategic Planning External Stakeholder Survey, sent to all homes on February 26, 2014.  It was the concerted team work of all teachers, staff and most importantly our students that made this task a Huge Success.  Thank you Oxon Hill ES parents and external stakeholders for an outstanding job of cooperation, support and reflective thought.  Read more for the five (5) priorities identified from the stakeholder feedback.
    STEM Fair Family Night: A Cognitive Tradition
    Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 6:30 pm, the doors to our gymnasium were wide open to receive parents and students into the viewing of over 200, student-created STEM Fair projects. 
    CEO Kevin Maxwell Visits Oxon Hill ES
    The level of excitement rose to astronomical heights when CEO Kevin Maxwell walked into Oxon Hill ES at 1:20 pm on Thursday, January 30, 2014.  Our student patrols greeted Dr. Maxwell and recited the Roadrunners' Code.  Students and teachers were engaged in rigorous work and accountable talk and proud to show him their academic accomplishments.
    Commit to Be Fit Family Night: On the Move to be Healthy
    Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 7:00 pm, 194 parents entered the doors of our school with excitement and great expectations.  Everyone, regardless of age, was actively moving to be healthier in a variety of ways at the various stations set up throughout the building.  Climbing wall, zumba, Insanity, Push-Ups, Parachutes, Jumping rope, Computer Lab for factual knowledge about health  are just some of the many activities that engaged about parents, students and staff.  And how did it end?  Apples, bananas, oranges, grapes and strawberries and water for refreshments! 
    More Books Please - Reading Pajama Night
    Close reading, in pjs with security blanket and parent/guardian close by, made for an intimate time with favorite book and author.  
    Business Partner Creating Healthy Teeth, Beautiful Smiles!
    Deamonte Driver Dental Services, our business partner for thepast three years, was back at work with us during the entire week ofNovember 4, 2013.  This highly skilled and caring Dental Services teamperformed routine screenings, cleanings, topical fluoride treatmentsand sealants to 184 students. 
    STEM Activities with Family Engagement
    Our annual STEM Activity Family night occurred on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at 7:00 pm in the cafeteria.  Students and their parents rotated with their children to the eight different stations of STEM challenging activities.
    Student Engineers Engaged in Creative Work at Oxon Hill Es
    It was school-wide STEM activity day at Oxon Hill ES on Friday, November 15, 2013.  All students, grades 1-6, engaged in the Catapult Challenge to accomplish the engineering goal of imagining, planning, creating, improving and asking.  Students were heard using academic-rich vocabulary (catapult, iteration, projectile) as they planned, created and tested their design models.  Projectile distances ranged from 5 to 22 feet as student teams tested their catapults.  Our kindergarten students engaged in sink/float investigations using 6 different materials; predicting, testing, recording their data and sharing findings.  Twenty-nine parents took off from work to participate with their children in this engineering event.  Our Stem-proficient students ended this challenging yet fun-filled day writing about the work in their science journals.
    Hispanic Family Night
    Our first, Hispanic Heritage Celebration Family Night event occurred on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 7:00 pm. A total of more than 188 families were in attendance: 97 parents and 91 students with many more children under the age of three (3). There was learning in song, dance, history and role models. Tasting of cultural foods brought this event to a wonderful and relaxing end. It was an event to be remembered!
