Overlook Elementary School Programs
There are several programs ongoing at Overlook Elementary that are geared toward helping the students improve academically.
Parents and students will be kept informed of all programs and activities planned for the school year.
After School Academic Enrichment Program
The After School Academic Enrichment Program was established to provide more learning opportunities for our students in Grades 2-5. The program includes reading, language arts and math.
Previous after school programs have shown substantial improvement overall in the participating student’s
academic achievement.
Parents and students will be
kept informed of plans for the school year.

Academy of Reading
Students are enrolled in the program based upon the recommendation of their teacher or the Reading Specialist.
The goal of the program is to
help students improve their reading skills.
Students are assigned to laptops which have interactive activities for students to practice their skills in phonemic awareness, auditory reading, oral reading, visual matching and reading comprehension. There are 69 skills to master.

Students must master each skill to move to the next level. Students receive praise and encourage as they work through the process. They may enter the “Award Room” to view the certificates they are awarded as they progress. Students who participate on a regular basis show great improvement in their reading skills. The program is ongoing during school hours and will continue throughout the school year.
Before and After Care Program
Students enrolled in the Before and After Care Program participate in many activities including arts and crafts, games and technology. In technology students in Grade K-5 have an opportunity to log on, search for websites and
