WELCOME
On behalf of the teachers and staff of Melwood Elementary School, I am pleased to welcome you as a Melwood Hawk. You are an important part of a school community that is committed to excellence. Credit goes to a unbelievable staff, a fine group of students and many supportive parents. WELCOME! You will love being a Hawk!
The School Vision:
The Administration, faculty and staff, students and parents envision Melwood Elementary School to be an exemplary school that is designed to integrate technology, human resources and all high levels of academic performances for all students. We envision that all stakeholders will work collaboratively to ensure all students are academically and socially prepared to become lifelong learners.
The Philosophy Statement:
As educators, we believe all students have the right to a quality educational program that will develop them in becoming productive citizens in our communities. We believe that students should have a well-organized and well-structured academic program that will build strong academic preparation, social and interpersonal skills, and esthetic appreciation for the performing arts. We believe the education of all students is not confined to the home alone. The home, the community, and other institutions must play important roles to ensure “no child is left behind”. To provide the best education possible for every student, there must be full participation and collaboration between the school, community, parents, teachers, students and administrators.
The school’s Mission Statement is as follows:
The Melwood Elementary School staff is committed to excellence.
The mission of Melwood Elementary School is to ensure that students acquire the knowledge to become responsible, productive citizens in a global society. Through a cooperative team effort, we will provide a variety of opportunities for the development as life-long learners. We will set high expectations for ourselves and our students and promote a strong home school partnership to meet those expectations.
In pursuit of the educational and organizational aspects of the Mission Statement, the Melwood staff has established programs and procedures that are outlined in this handbook. Please read the information in this handbook and review this information with your child. We are requesting that all parents become active members of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA). We are also very interested in having parents volunteer in our school as a way to strengthen our program. It also increases the number of parents who are knowledgeable about our school and its organization.
Once again, welcome! It is a pleasure to serve you as the Principal of Melwood Elementary School. I look forward to personally working with all of you this school year.
Sincerely,
Mr. Carrington Smith, Principal
