  • Improve the quality of teaching in every classroom;
  • Equip teachers with the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities; and
  • Ensure that all facets of the system support teachers in this goal

With the support of the Board of Education, the system has established seven strategic goals to ensure that all students are achieving at high levels and that gaps in achievement among subgroups are eliminated. Five of the goals are aligned to the goals of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001:

  1. All students will reach high standards in the core curricular areas;
  2. All English Language Learners will become proficient in English and attain proficiency in reading and math;
  3. All employees will be highly qualified, highly skilled, and effective;
  4. All students will be educated in environments that are conducive to learning; and
  5. All students will graduate from high school.

The 2 additional goals focus the system’s work in improving management effectiveness, efficiency, accountability and in strengthening relationships among schools, parents and community stakeholders to support student achievement.

  1. The quality of school system service delivery will be enhanced by improving management effectiveness, efficiency, and accountability.
  2. Family, school, business, and community relationships will be strengthened to support student achievement.
