Hello, my name is Weldina Lewis. I am the professional school counselor here at Lewisdale Elementary School. I was educated in the Prince Georges County Public School System and currently reside in the county. I am the proud mother of a budding high school freshman, who also attends a school in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Upon completion of schooling, I went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree from Morgan State University in psychology and a minor in gerontology. Once I graduated from Morgan State, I became an elementary school teacher while pursuing and earning a Master of Education Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Bowie State University in Bowie, Maryland.
MISSION STATEMENT:
The Mission of Lewisdale Elementary School Guidance and Counseling Program is to provide a comprehensive, developmental counseling program that assist students in the areas of academics, personal/social growth and introduction of career development.
PHILOSOPHY:
The Professional School Counselor at Lewisdale Elementary School believes:
· All students have a right to a safe and friendly environment
· All students have a right to be treated with respect
· All students have a right to see the Professional School Counselor
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supports student academic program planning with the use of individual Learning Plans, Section 504 plans and course advisement
- Conducts small and individual counseling to promote positive student behavior, successful test-taking skills, and emotional stress management
- Aligns programs with the school's mission to support a cohesive support network
