 Grade Level Mission

Here at Langley Park McCormick Elementary School, it is our Second Grade Mission to promote a culture of independence among our students. We are committed to enhancing students’ academic skills through parental involvement, as well as maintaining a productive learning environment.

 Course Description

By the end of Second Grade students are expected to have a solid foundation in phonics and phonemic awareness, as well as reading and writing skills. Addition and subtraction with and without regrouping through one thousand are taught and need to be mastered.  Students are introduced to higher level thinking through thematic units in all subject areas.  These skills encourage second graders to become independent learners and thinkers.

 Grading/Homework Policy

Reading Log for twenty minutes is mandatory and is to be done everyday, including holidays and weekends.  Reading Logs together with Agenda Books are to be signed by parents/guardians daily and turned in to class teachers with homework.

Homework is given and graded daily.  Rubrics which are scoring guides are in place in each class.

 Conference Policy

We will schedule conferences with parents/guardians as needed to discuss progress of students.  Each conference needs to be scheduled with the students’ individual teacher and needs to be confirmed in writing or telephonically.
