Thanks to all who attended our PTA, Back to School Night, Tuesday, September 15th. We look forward to working with your family this school year. If you were unable to attend please arrange to meet with us to go over the important information that was presented.
Your child began his/her homework assignments September 9, 2009. Please look for our Weekly Homework Assignment in the Lamont Agenda Book and help your child complete the assignment listed. Each assignment is due the next school day (unless otherwise noted). The homework should take your child 20 to 30 minutes to complete. These assignments should be written in a Homework Journal (black and white composition style).
Please make a point of setting aside 10 minutes each evening to read with your child. Studies have proven that reading to and with your child is the most important way of helping to build a strong reader. Lamont’s Reading Department will sponsor several reading incentives programs that will require that each student keep a Monthly Reading Log of books read at home. Logs are due on the last school day of each month and must be signed by an adult listener to be accepted.
The Monday’s Envelope is Lamont’s way of improving communication between school and home. We will collect and send home graded samples of your child’s work along with all important newsletters and papers for your review. We ask that you make a habit of sitting down with your child on Mondays to go over the contents, empty the envelope and sign the front by the date sent. Please return the signed envelope on Tuesday.
Thank you for your cooperation,

55 Basic First Grade Sight Words
These words are the basic Sight Words that are used often in reading and most difficult to learn to read as Emergent Readers. Your child needs to memorize these. We will test your child on these words several times this year (October, January and May) to see how many he/she can read. Please spend a few minutes making flash cards and help your child learn to read these important Sight Words.
