The Kindergarten Team has had a very good start. The students have adjusted nicely to the routine. It is now October and we are looking for signs of Fall.
During this month, we will begin a new Reading Theme, “Colors All Around”. The letters and sounds for this theme are s, m, r, and t. In Math, the students will learn about creating and extending patterns. They will use words to compare quantities: more than, less than, fewer than, as many as, and one less. They will also learn to make sets of objects numbering 0-10. Picture graphs will be created and questions answered about them. In Science, we will continue to study how animals change. We will have butterfly larvae to observe in a habitat making chrysalis and turning into butterflies. Our students will learn a new word: metamorphosis
The Kindergarten teachers will soon be sending letters requesting a conference. Our conference day is November 11, 2008. We will make every effort to accommodate a more convenient time if this date is not available for some parents.
Please check your child’s backpack each night for homework and/or notices that may need to be returned to school. We are asking students to read a book each night (Monday through Thursday) and record it on the reading log. You can help your child by reading homework directions to them and encouraging them to complete the homework. Please call your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for your support of our Kindergarten program.
