Dear Pre-Kindergarten Parents,
We are off to a super start to the 2009/2010 school year! We appreciate that you have put your children in our care and we will do our best to educate them mentally and nourish them emotionally.
We have several things to impart to you for the month of October. Academically, we will be continuing to go over shapes, colors, and numbers. We will also be concentrating on one letter a week. Our goal is to have the children recognize their letters and be able to identify their sounds. Our curriculum includes ten themes for the year. We will be finishing up the first theme (Welcome To School!) and we will be beginning theme two (My Family, My Community).
We are planning several field trips this year. The field trip we would like to partake in this month is a trip to a pumpkin patch to usher in fall. We are always looking for chaperones! Please help us by getting yourself fingerprinted (Prince George's County Public Schools’ policy), and joining us for these exciting outings. Please call the school office for further information on fingerprinting. All help is greatly appreciated!
On a house-keeping note – please continue to check your child’s folder for the responsibility sheet on a nightly basis. It will inform you as to the current letter we are covering and what your child’s homework is for the evening. Please do not forget to read your child a book on a nightly basis, as well. Literacy is the corner stone for future success in all subject areas. It will also contain important papers and possible notes from the teacher. It is our primary way of continually staying in touch with you. Also, remember to sign the responsibility sheet each day and return it in your child’s folder daily.
We continue to be excited about the school year and the children are making remarkable progress in comfort, behavior, and routines. You will be hearing from us via these letters on a monthly basis. Enjoy October!
