The Prince George’s County Board of Education encourages the public to participate in tomorrow’s (January 22) Board Meeting to learn more about several important new programs and initiatives. Prince George’s County Public Schools staff will give the second in a series of countywide boundary review presentations that will focus on expansion of choice programs and school consolidation. More information will also be presented on the new Healthy Schools Program that begins in 68 schools this year – including 49 Title I schools – and is planned for expansion to all schools over the next two years.
The Board will discuss a resolution to submit a request for $12 million in supplemental funding for the FY2010-2015 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) to the State of Maryland through the Prince George’s County Executive and County Council. The school system was invited by the Interagency Committee on School Construction (IAC) to supplement its CIP request with additional projects identified in the Parsons 3D/International Facilities Assessment Study report, including projects at Avalon, Henry G. Ferguson, Samuel Chase, Clinton Grove, and Tulip Grove elementary schools.
Another resolution will be discussed by the Board that establishes a Suspension Reduction Task Force, and several proclamations to commemorate upcoming events in PGCPS are on the Consent Agenda: National African American History Month, National School Counseling Week, and Peace Week.
The meeting will be held at 7:05 p.m. in the Board Meeting Room of the Sasscer Administration Building, located at 14201 School Lane in Upper Marlboro. Public participation is encouraged; call 301-952-6333 by 4:30 p.m. to register to speak.
