PGCPS Students Celebrate American Education Week

Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) will celebrate the nationwide 87 th Annual American Education Week sponsored by the National Education Association (NEA). The purpose of the week is to raise awareness of the importance of providing every child in America with a quality public education. This year’s theme is “Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility.”

“The Board of Education strongly supports this annual event, and encourages our schools to join in the celebration,” said Board of Education Chair Verjeana M. Jacobs, Esq. “This year’s theme is particularly relevant to all the work that is being done in our school system to ensure that  all  students graduate college and work ready.”

American Education Week provides an opportunity for all Americans to get involved in education at their local schools, and honor individuals who are making a difference in ensuring that every child receives a quality education.
