The Prince George’s County Board of Education held a ground-breaking ceremony for the county’s next new school. Scheduled to open next school year, the Sub-region VI elementary school will be the County’s second LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) school. The new school will be located next to Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School in Upper Marlboro.
Sub-region VI ES will be 82,659 square foot, two-story “eco-green” school designed for a student population of 792 with 43 classrooms. The total estimated budget for the school is $25,583,000.
Building systems will reduce energy costs by using a white Energy Star roof, by maximizing natural light with large windows and reducing the quantity of indoor air contaminants by using low-VOC (volatile organic compound) products for adhesives, sealants, and paints. The building will feature waterless urinals, alt-flush toilets, and lowflow faucets that will assist in reducing the overall water use in the building.
