Students from John Hanson French Immersion School will be able to see their artistic ablities on display throughout the County this winter. Their design and painted mural won them first place in the Annual Snow Plow Mural Painting Contest, organized by Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) Maintenance Department.
“Art is an integral part of student achievement. We applaud our Maintenance Department for their creative idea in ensuring that our students are actively engaged in projects that will allow them to use various learned academic concepts,” said John E. Deasy, Superintendent of Schools. “I congratulate this year’s winners and commend all
of the schools who participated.”
When designing their concept and applying paint, students used mathematical equations to determine space and the effects of using paint that adheres to metal rather than canvas. Digital images of their work are posted on the PGCPS website www.pgcps.org.
The snow plows are used each year to remove snow from the driveways and parking lots at 207 schools and centers and all PGCPS offices.
Largo High School ranked second; while John Hanson Montessori School came in third place. The two schools who won in the category were Gwynn Park High School and Frederick Douglass High School.
