Textbook Inventory Process 2012-13

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Prince George’s County Public Schools is putting into place a new automated system for textbook inventory for all hardback books. The purpose of moving to this system is to improve efficiency and generate cost savings to the school system that can be used to provide additional resources to the classroom. Our goal is to barcode and scan all books using a licensed software that will capture our inventory electronically.

While textbooks are being inventoried, teachers will adjust assignments to bridge this temporary gap. Most textbooks and resources are also available online but each teacher will ensure the assignments are such that all students have access. Our goal first and foremost is that learning continues. We acknowledge the inconvenient timing but are moving forward so that we can apply our savings to next year’s purchases. We are beginning the inventory this year with all books issued to middle and high school students. Next year we will begin this process for elementary schools.

Please assist your child in returning all hardback textbooks to school for inventory as instructed by the Principal. School staff will stage the books for barcoding and return them to students as soon as possible.
