Superintendent Dr. John E. Deasy and the Prince George’s County Board of Education unveiled the winning design from the
Children Come First
logo contest on Thursday, June 21 during the last Board of Education meeting of the 2006-2007 school year.
The winning logo was designed by Evan Flores, a Class of 2007 graduate of Eleanor Roosevelt High School. He plans to attend Arizona State University in the fall and leaves a lasting impression on his home school district.
“We thank Evan for his exceptional work, and acknowledge that the response from our students was overwhelming to this opportunity to use their creativity to demonstrate their pride in their schools,” Dr. Deasy said. “We will use the new
Children Come First
logo to symbolize our focus on meeting the needs of every child and providing new rigorous academic challenges in every classroom.”
The
Children Come First
logo contest, a computer graphic design contest, was announced in March. The contest was open to all public school students. Members of the Prince George’s Regional Association of Student Governments selected Evan’s winning design from a pool of 14 finalists, who met all contest criteria. In all, 127 logos were submitted for consideration. The
Children Come First
logo will be used on the school district’s new web site and various publications.
“We appreciate every student’s work. The quality and creativity of the many concepts and ideas were outstanding,” said Board Chair R. Owen Johnson, Jr. “The Board of Education also thanks our student leaders for reviewing and selecting the winning logo to represent what is most important in our schools – the needs of all children must be met.”
On June 13, the Board of Education reconciled and approved the Superintendent’s requested operating budget for fiscal year 2008, which includes the
Children Come First
initiatives for accelerating student achievement in all Prince George’s County public schools. The
