In March, the Science Olympians from Northwestern High School proudly represented Prince George's County Public Schools for the first time in the Science Olympiad Central Regional Tournament in Columbia, MD.
After competing in seven events, the students placed 3rd in Sumo-bots, 5th in Towers, 5th in Helicopters, and 7th in Fossils. There were a total of 19 teams competing. After this experience, the students were full of excitement and participated in the State Competition on April 2 at John’s Hopkins University in Baltimore and came in 4th place in the overall competition.
The Northwestern High School Science Olympiad Program provides students an opportunity to utilize their knowledge and passion for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. It includes rigorous academic tournaments that cover all aspects of science, including biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and technology.
