How to Apply for International Baccalaureate (IB)

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme Application Introduction for 2017-2018 

Prince George’s County Public Schools is pleased to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, an academically challenging and balanced course of study that prepares students for success at college and life beyond.  Students who apply to this highly challenging program should be able to demonstrate:

     a strong ability, aptitude, and genuine interest in learning;

     an intellectual curiosity and self-motivation;

     the highest academic and personal integrity; and

     an aspiration to become a member of a community of lifelong learners.


These qualities have proven to help students achieve academic success:

     Completion of Foundations of Algebra in Middle School

     Completion of World Language I in middle school;

     Minimum grade point average of 2.5 in current English, world language, social studies, science, and mathematics classes;

     Attendance in the ninetieth percentile.


A complete application will include:

     three teacher recommendations

     grade reports from seventh and eighth grade

    documentation of extracurricular activities and student service-learning; 

     a written personal statement.

Complete the entire application packet and include all documentation for evaluation.  Type or print your responses to each section.  Please note that the number of seats available for the program is limited and submitting an application is no guarantee of admission. Submit one application per student (either an electronic or paper application).

Completed online applications must be submitted or postmarked by March 1, 2017.

All eighth grade students may also obtain an IB application from any PGCPS Middle School Professional School Counseling Department or an IB Coordinator at Diploma Program sites.
