• About Us
    The
Howard B. Owens Science Center will celebrate its 35th anniversary of serving students in Prince George's County during the 2013-2014 school year.  The Science Center is a public school facility owned and operated by Prince George’s County Public Schools.  Our staff is  dedicated to the promotion of STEM education and enrichment. We emphasize the constructivist/hands-on approach to science instruction for students and educators of the Prince George's County Public Schools. Our programs incorporate the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.  We provide community outreach during the year through our Family Science Events and our Friday night planetarium programs. Private schools, home school students and Scout troops also have opportunities to visit us throughout the year and on special weekends. Our facility includes a Challenger Learning Center170-seat planetarium,  nature trail, live animal exhibit, a computer lab,  several science labs and classrooms. Year round special groups make use of our unique facility for training purposes and professional development.  We have been fortunate to host many teacher workshops, university groups and the Governor's Academy.  (Mission Statement)

    Cost for Programming
There is no cost for programs for Prince George's County Public School students.  For other school districts, home school groups and other special groups that wish to participate in programs at the Science Center, there is a fee schedule available.  If you have any questions please contact the office secretary.

    Lunch
There are no lunch facilities at the science center.  We do not have tables or an eating area available and students are not permitted to eat in the labs. Students that are here for less than a 3 hour program should make arrangements at school to either eat before coming to the science center or eat after they return from their trip. Very limited special arrangements have been made for our extended program students that are at the center for 3.5 and 4.5 hour programs, since there is not enough time for them to eat at school. The staff at the center greatly appreciates the cooperation of all visits groups with this policy.
