Technology Integration
The Prince George’s County Public Schools Middle School Technology Integration Course is aligned with the Maryland Technology Literacy Standard and Voluntary State Curriculum for Social Studies endorsed by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). The Middle School Technology Integration Course will utilize Blackboard to support delivery of instruction. Blackboard is a web-based software system which is used to support flexible teaching and learning. It provides tools and facilities for online course management, content management and sharing, assessment management, and online collaboration and communication.
The Middle School Technology Integration Course is appropriate for students of skill levels with no prerequisite instruction required and will focus on exploring the following Microsoft Office software: Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Inspiration is used to develop graphic organizers and Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing, a self paced typing tutorial, will be used to improve typing speed and accuracy. Students will also utilize Internet Explorer to conduct academic research.
This course is project-based. The students participate in practical applications that incorporate an array of interdisciplinary skills from math, language arts, fine art, geography, science and technology with a particular emphasis on social studies themes. This assures that technology will not be taught in isolation, but infused throughout the students’ daily instruction.
Technology occupies an increasing important role in today’s society. Therefore, it is imperative that students are proficient in all forms of electronic media. This course is designed to ensure that Prince George’s County School students obtain the technological skills needed to become productive and successful members of society.
