General Music
Course Overview
General Music is a semester-long course. In the first quarter, students will learn to recognize and value music as an essential ingredient in their lives. Students will participate in units that lead to an enhanced understanding of music’s importance, history, and varied role in school, community, regional, national, and global life by building upon their prior knowledge and personal preferences of music. Students will also learn the components of the staff which lead to the reading of music. In the second quarter, the student will begin reading music through the use of the recorder, a famous renaissance instrument.

Requirements
- A Music section in their binder
- Sharpened pencil
- A recorder which may be purchased from the music teacher (grades 6, 7, and 8)
- A recorder method book which may be purchased from the music teacher (grades 7 and 8)
