Band & Orchestra
Course Overview
Students will learn to function in a large or small ensemble setting. The students will learn about their instruments and how to properly assemble them and care for them. They will learn how to produce a proper tone and form the proper embouchure for their instrument. They will learn the characteristic sound of their instrument and begin to produce that sound. Students will learn how to breathe properly, and support the tone. Students will know how to identify the notes on, above, and below the staff and to produce those specific pitches. The students will also be required to learn several scales culminating with a total of ten by the end of the eighth grade.
Requirements
Pencil, positive attitude, instrument, music to be performed, reeds, valve oil, slide grease, class book (Accent on Achievement) and a Music folder provided by the teacher.

Class work 50%
Homework 20%
Tests 30%
Homework includes the bi-weekly practice sheet plus any assignments given in class.
Tests include playing tests, rhythm tests, scales, and any written tests given in class
