Representatives, parents, students, and teachers formulated the student dress policy for Gwynn Park Middle School.  It reflects standards held in common by the Gwynn Park community and incorporates the Prince George’s County Public Schools System-Wide Dress Code for Students. 
 
Slacks: All slacks must be cotton/khaki and appropriately sized to eliminate bagging or sagging.  Slacks are worn at the natural waistline.  Female and male students wear solid colored slacks in:

Shorts: Female and male students may wear khaki shorts that must be at least at the knee or walking shorts (applies to warmer months) in: 
  • Khaki
 
Skirts: Skirts are worn at the natural waistline.  Female students wear knee-length or longer skirts in:  
  • Khaki
 
Shirts: Shirts must be tucked into the pants, skirts, and shorts.  Female and male students wear solid colored shirts and may choose long or short sleeves in:
  • Black Polo, 8th Grade - White Polo, 7th Grade and Yellow(Gold) 6th Grade, or turtleneck with the school logo 
            Sweaters:  Female and male students wear solid colored sweaters in Black only, imprinted with the Gwynn Park Middle School logo (optional) by the school’s vendor.
 
Belts: • Solid Black or Brown
 
Socks:  Socks worn with skirts must be ankle fold down or knee length.  Female and male students wear solid colored socks in:
  • Brown/Khaki
 
Tights:  Female students wear solid colored tights in:
  • Brown/Khaki
 
Shoes:   Female and male students wear solid colored shoes, and boots in:
• Black
• Brown
 
OPTIONAL:  Clip-on Neckties, Blazers and clear backpacks
 
Clip-on Neckties:  Worn with Oxford shirts in
     • Black/ Black & Gold
     • Yellow Jacket motif Ties

 
Sweaters:  * Black with school logo *Female and male students wear solid colored blazers or sweaters, imprinted with the Gwynn Park Middle School logo is preferred  by the school’s vendor. 
    

Head Coverings: Refer to PGCPS System-Wide Dress Code for Students
 These styles and fabrics are NOT permitted:
  • No visible labels or logos on any article of clothing are allowed (ONLY Gwynn Park Middle School logos are permitted on students’ uniforms)
  • No stretch, tight, or form-fitting clothing
  • No baggy slacks
  • No skorts (Skorts are skirts that include shorts)

  • No jeans or denims
  • No hood clothing
  • No cropped shirts
  • No slippers, flip-flops, mules or open toe shoes
  • No ornamental belts (i.e. bullets/metals, no designs)
  • No blazers or sweaters around the waist

Exemptions (New Students):
Students who are new to the school after Labor Day will be allowed a grace period of ten (10) school days to comply with the Gwynn Park Middle School Uniform Policy.
 
Financial Hardship:
Parents or guardians who are not able to purchase the mandatory uniform due to financial hardship must submit a letter of explanation to the Principal.  The Principal and Chair for the Uniform Committee will review hardship requests to determine the assistance needed for the parents/guardians.  Parents or guardians will receive a response within ten (10) days of the request for assistance.
