Mathematics Department Overview:
Gwynn Park Middle School is an institution of learning where all students acquire and achieve academic excellence. In keeping with our school’s mission statement, the Math Department is a team of professionals who are trained and devoted to provide rigor in the classroom.
Middle Grade Mathematics standards are written to provide students with hands-on experiences to support the application of concepts related to ratio, proportion and percent, probability, integrated problem solving and reasoning, geometry and spatial visualization, measurement, statistics and data sampling techniques, and algebraic methods including patterns, functions, expressions, numeric, and graphic representation.
Algebra I standards are written to provide students with hands-on experiences to support the application of concepts related to problem solving and patterns, graphical solutions to linear equations, rate of change, solutions to equations and inequalities, quadratics and other non-linear functions, polynomials, and rational expressions.
General Required Supplies:
Pens, pencils, notebook, binder, compass, protractor, ruler, text book

Calculator (graphic calculator of Algebra or Geometry students)

Pre-Algebra Review
Factors included for grading Mathematics courses:
- Seventy (70) percent of the grade will be earned through demonstration of having skills and performances based on assessment tests, quizzes, and projects. Including:
- Problem of the Week
- Friday Night Homework
- Thirty (30) percent of the grade will be earned through demonstration of having met course or grade level outcomes as measured by methods focusing on process. These methods include, but are not limited to: Homework, Classwork/Group Participation. Including:
· Notebooks
· Warm-ups
· Vocabulary
· Written responses to Constructed Responses (BCR/ECR)
· Group Interaction
· Active Participation
· Completion of assignments
