    • Reading Under the Stars
    • Super Hero- Readers are Super Heros
    • Football- Tackling Reading for a Successful Year or Tackling a Good Book
    • Minion- There's a Minion Reasons to Read
    • Bubble Gum- Reading Blows my Mind
    • Hungry for Reading in the Cafeteria
    • Reading by the Campfire
    • Reading is SO Sweet
    • Don't Bug Me--- I'm reading
    • BedTime Story- There's an Alligator Under My Bed
    • Cooking up a Good Book
    • Reading and Relaxing at the Beach
    • Banana's About Reading

I did not have a lunch break, but did enjoy a fresh Banana as we went Bananas over reading in one of the classrooms. I had a wonderful time and feel the students enjoyed having their Principal read to them. Thank you to the logistic hosts, custodians for putting up tables, teachers transitioning students, taking pictures and for allowing me to be part of the teaching and learning of the students and showing the importance of reading. Pizza Hut BOOK IT! Program

It is with great enthusiasm and excitement that I welcome each of you to the 2017-2018 school year!  My name is Ms. Heather Porterfield,  and I am pleased to introduce myself as the Principal of Glenn Dale Elementary School.  I am honored to have been selected to serve the students and families of the Glenn Dale Elementary School community, and I look forward to meeting you soon.

    Heather Porterfield

As a passionate educator, I have served the students, families, school communities, and teachers for the past 22 years in Prince George’s County Public Schools. I have had the pleasure to have worked as an elementary teacher of various grade levels, a regional resource teacher for mathematics, and an assistant principal for many years. One of my greatest achievements is of a personal nature as I am the mother of two wonderful children: Alexis(20) and Eddie(15).  I understand the importance of a solid educational foundation for every child.  Please know I will work tirelessly to ensure all of your children have the best possible experiences and education while at Glenn Dale Elementary.

As the Principal, I commit to leading an instructional learning environment that promotes the success of all students through a shared vision that is supported by the school community.  I will advocate, nurture and sustain a school culture and instructional program that is marked by excellence and is conducive to student learning. I will ensure that our program builds the foundation for our students to be college and career ready.

Equally important is my commitment to the partnership with the parents and community that thrives on transparency and dedication.  It is extremely important to me to be visible and accessible to students, family, and community members. I will spend dedicated time with your children, getting to know their personalities, learning styles, and interests. I will celebrate their successes, small and large. I will encourage them every day and let them know they are valued and have a special place in our school community.  I believe that when strong partnerships between home and school are created, students excel and succeed in school.

Throughout the school year, there will be many opportunities for us to communicate and come together as partners in education. I value open communication and am eager to hear from you about what matters to you about your student’s success at Glenn Dale Elementary School. As I begin the process of entering the school, I invite you to help me learn as much as possible about our school.
