Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to Gaywood Elementary School and Second Grade! We are looking forward to a successful school year. It is essential that teachers, parents and students work together to achieve academic excellence.
Academic excellence starts with being punctual. The school day begins promptly at 7:45 a.m.
Academic excellence includes being prepared. Check your child’s supplies often and provide needed materials if necessary. Parents should also have a supply of materials at home to complete homework assignments. Academic excellence requires following the school uniform dress code. Uniforms are to be worn daily unless otherwise noted.
Please supply your child with a two pocket folder to be used as a communication folder. It will be used to contain all notes from school and the homework. One side will be for papers to take home and keep at home. The other side will contain the papers to be returned the following day. Please remind your child to bring the folder back each day. Homework is expected to be completed daily. Follow the instructions written on the homework sheet and/or in the text.
Students will be graded in all subject areas using the following grading rubric: A= 90-100%, B= 80-89%, C= 70-79%, D= 60 - 69% and E= 50-59%. The students work is graded on a weighted system. Assessments account for 50% of your child’s total grade, class work is worth 35%, and homework is worth 15%.
Students that do not ride the bus will be released with the walkers. They will be dismissed out the side door of the front hallway. Please meet your child outside on the black top next to the school on time. Dismissal begins at 1:55 p.m. Please make sure your child knows where to meet you.
We are looking forward to an exciting year. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the school at (301) -918-8730.
