August Scholars of the Month
On Friday, September 13th Gaywood Elementary recognized two students from every grade level. The students were nominated and selected by the grade level teachers. Each recipient was awarded with a certificate, plaque and a pin in honor of their commitment to excellence. Students had to exhibit Peaceful, Positive and Productive(3Ps) character traits throughout the month of August. Scholars will be able to eat lunch in the Student Lounge and dress down on Fridays during September.
Great Job Scholars of the Month
Gaywood students and staff were welcomed by several distinguished guests during the first week.
On opening day families were greeted by Ms. America 2013, Chiniqua Pettaway. Ms. Pettaway traveled all the way from Houston, Texas to Lanham, Maryland in order to ensure that our students started the year Peacefully, Positively and Productively. She spent the morning speaking with our scholars about the value of hard work and pursuing your dreams.
Dwayne De Rosario
Mr. De Rosario came to speak with our 3rd-5th gradescholars about Student Rights and Responsibilities and the importance of being part of a global community. He mentioned that schools are a great place for young people to learn about new cultures and the importance of being accepting of differences.
