Enrollment Requirements for FIRST Program

Enrollment Requirements for 1st Time Teachers:
Enrollment in FIRST is a five step process for teachers.  As a FIRST participant, you will need to attend professional development sessions that will provide you with the requisite knowledge to make an informed choice about participating in FIRST and to fully understand how the reward program is structured. All workshops are paid the current contractually negotiated workshop rate.

At the FIRST Logistics Course, you will receive an enrollment ticket to mark off the sessions you attend. You will not be able to receive an MOU unless you have a completed enrollment ticket.

Courses are currently offered on Electronic Registrar Online (ERO) - it is imperative that you register for these courses as soon as possible.  Classes will be cancelled if fewer than 10 people are registered 48 hours in advance.

Step 1 – FIRST Logistics Course
FIRST Logistics is a three hour session that provides participants with a complete overview of the project and includes a description of the grant and its goals and objectives. The session describes who can participate, how participants may earn financial incentives, how and when the financial payments are made and in general explains the logistical details that support the implementation of the initiative. Additionally, participants will explore how they can earn the reward for the hard to staff subject, professional development and leadership components of the program.

Sessions are now scheduled from July 2009 – September 2009 – Register Now

Step 2 – FIRST Student Achievement Course
The Student Achievement course is a three hour session that provides participants with information about how they can earn the school wide and classroom based student achievement component of the FIRST program.  Participants will understand how local growth targets are set, the measures used to determine student progress and the methods of calculating awards.

Sessions are now scheduled from July 2009 – September 2009 – Register Now

Step 3 – Introduction to Framework for Teacher Workshop
This workshop is a three hour session that provides individuals with a general understanding of the Framework for Teaching which is the foundation of the evaluation system used by FIRST participants.  This orientation will lay the foundation for teacher understanding and use of the criteria found within the Framework for Teaching model.

Sessions are now scheduled from July 2009 – September 2009 – Register Now

Step 4 – PGCPS Pilot Evaluation System Course
The Teacher Evaluation course is a full day, six hour course that provides participants with an understanding of the teacher evaluation process used in FIRST. The workshop allows for deeper exploration of the Framework For Teaching, review of the various stages involved in the teacher evaluation process and an understanding of how awards are calculated.

Sessions are now scheduled from July 2009 – September 2009 – Register Now

Step 5 – Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
At the conclusion of the PGCPS Pilot Evaluation System session, participants will show their completed workshop enrollment ticket and receive an electronic Teacher MOU which they must submit to the FIRST office by the conclusion of the day on September 12,2009 to be an active participant.
