Greetings Parents/Guardians and Students,


WELCOME to school year 2017-18 where we are building a culture of respect, trust, and appreciation for the work that is done by all stakeholders.  I am looking forward to seeing everyone on September 6, 2017!  It is truly an honor to serve as the leader of this GREAT learning institution. We are extremely excited that we are transitioning into our new school building and sports complex. As we begin this school year the FHHS Family wants you to know that we need you to work collaboratively with us in order for your child to be successful. The vision of Fairmont Heights High School (FHHS) is to empower students to exhibit P.R.I.D.E every day. Fairmont Heights High School students are Respectful, Punctual, Disciplined, and fully Engaged at all times; while striving to become Independent thinkers as they transform from High School to the global community. The mission of Fairmont Heights High School will prepare, lead, encourage, and challenge students to achieve academic excellence and participate in a multitude of cultural and extracurricular activities to function in a global society.


Our theme for the last several years has been “#Doing It With E.A.S.E (Ensuring All Students Excel)”. This theme is embraced by the staff, students, parents and the community. We are continuing to build upon our success by providing our students with opportunities for growth both academically and socially. At FHHS, we believe that it is our duty to promote academic excellence, high and rigorous standards, data-driven analysis, family engagement, and meaningful professional development for staff members. We believe that it is an honorable pursuit to be able to work each day to provide students with a quality education. It is our desire that through our school-wide culture we will develop students who are academically prepared as well as students that exhibit unwavering character and commitment to their success.


I would like to welcome all again to the start of an exciting new school year! It is truly a pleasure to have this opportunity to work with each of you and your child(ren). Important Information:

  • Parents and students who have access to SchoolMax Family Portal it will be available on September 5, 2017 to view student's schedule. Students will be given a copy of their schedules on the September 5, 2017 (9th graders) and September 6 (10-11 graders)

  • Sign up for Text Messages and Email Alerts on our school’s website through Connect With Us Sign Up for school email and text message alerts. Make sure you select Fairmont Heights High School to receive text and email notifications.

  • Follow FHHS on TWITTER @hornetsleader for highlights and upcoming events

  • Students will have the opportunity to rent a chromebook. More information will be given to parents and students.

  • New School Address: 6501 Columbia Park Rd, Hyattsville, MD 20785

  • School Hours: 8:00-3:10pm--Doors will open for students at 8:00am. Students are not allowed to enter the building before 8:00am.

  • No early dismissal after 2:30pm.

  • Students can only stay after school if they are with a staff member/coach/mentoring group.

  • To find your child's bus stop: Visit the school bus stop finder webpage by clicking here. This link can be found on the PGCPS Homepage at the bottom under transportation. Students need to be at their bus stops at least 10-15 minutes early. If you have any further questions or concerns regarding transportation Call the Transportation Phone Bank at 301-952-6570, Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Review the FHHS uniform policy. Students in violation of the uniform policy will receive a consequence.

Important Dates—Please mark your calendars:


  • Saturday, August 26, 2017: PGCPS Back to School Fair @ Prince George's Stadium, home of the Bowie Baysox from 9:30am-1:30pm. Please come out and support.

  • Friday, September 1, 2017: Open House (9-11pm). Parents/Guardians will be able to tour the building in order to find students classes.

  • Monday, September 4, 2017: Schools and Office Closed (Labor Day Holiday)

  • Tuesday, September 5, 2017: Systemic Orientation for New 9th graders ONLY from 8:00am -3:10pm.Bus transportation will be provided. Breakfast and lunch will be served. Students are to report in uniform.

  • Wednesday, September 6, 2017: First Day of school for all students.

  • Tuesday, September 19, 2017: Back to School Night in the auditorium and classrooms from 6-9pm. Parents will have the opportunity to meet teachers and gain information about course expectations.

  • October 19, 2017: All grade level night. More information to come.
