English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

ESOL Curriculum

 Children Reading

At most levels, ESOL students are grouped by their English proficiency level.  At the elementary level, students might participate in any of the appropriate instructional models. The ESOL teacher provides instruction focusing on language acquisition in the areas set forth by the WIDA standards. At the secondary level, the ESOL teacher provides instruction focusing on language acquisition in lieu of English Language Arts. Students receive an English credit for each ESOL course they successfully complete.

WIDA Standards

WIDA standards are used in conjunction with Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards to ensure that students acquire the language they need to be successful across the curriculum.
