The Mission of the Counseling Department is to provide a comprehensive, developmental counseling program addressing the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students.  Counselors, who serve as advocates for students, will provide support to maximize student potential and academic achievement and will ensure that all students have access to the knowledge and skills necessary to become productive members of society.

It is rewarding to work with the students, parents, and staff at Ernest Everett Just Middle School.  In the field of education there is little that is more rewarding than seeing a young person face the academic and social challenges of middle school, prepare, and implement a plan of action that leads to success that is evidenced on report cards, test scores, and in personal and intellectual interactions. Success and growth are also revealed when students take more responsibility for self and community.  I have been a language arts/English teacher for fifteen years, and a counselor for a comparable number of years.  The bulk of my experience has been with middle school children.

Over the years, as everyone is aware the once neighborhood village has opened up to include the world.  Technology and student savvy have made this happen. Consequently our children, parents, and  schools are faced with issues that are new, exciting, challenging, and yes, stressful and  possibly dangerous.  I believe that by standing united (parents, schools, and children), we can make a very positive difference and help prepare our children for high school and beyond and  move forward with confidence in meeting the many opportunities that will be presented to them.
