|| Congratulations to all of our more than 75 new AVID scholars for the 2014-2015 school year. Welcome to the program, and way to go!
AVID is expanding this year. We will have two 7th grade classes this year on our way to working directly with 150 students in the program. We will also take AVID school wide this year with all students carrying organizer 3 inch binders, using Cornell Notes in all classes, and having Socratic Seminar discussions in their classes to work on our goal of helping all students to be College and Career Ready. AVID and MYP will be working together to provide a rigorous and engaging academic experience for all of our students.
AVID is a national college readiness program targeting students in the middle range of academic standings, with the goal of enrolling them into the most challenging classes. Motivated students enroll in AVID upon the recommendations of their teachers and after an interview and application process. In AVID, students are exposed early and often to the college experience through rigorous instruction, project-based learning, intensive critical reading and writing, and other opportunities.
