Dear Parent/Guardian

We are pleased to inform you that the Prince George's County Public Schools will be paying for all students in the 10th grade to take the PSAT/NMSQT this year.  Please note that the 2009 PSAT/NMSQT will be offered only on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, and it is important for your student to participate that day.

The PSAT/NMSQT Program provides valuable resources that help students prepare for the SAT and take important first steps toward college.  It allows eligible eleventh grade students to enter scholarship and recognition programs, and provides younger students in grades 9 and 10 with early feedback on academic skills they can work to imporove.  The cost of the exam for all students, except those in the 10th grade will be $15.  Students should give money to their English teacher or Counseler.  Students will receive a score report that will provide feedback on the questions that were answered correctly or incorrectly.

Students who take the PSAT/NMSQT will receive free access to the following valuable resources:

  • My College QuickstartTM:  a personalized online college and career planning tool that contains an online PSAT/NMSQT Score Report.
  • A customized My SAT Study PlanTM
  • Personalized lists of colleges, majors and careers, and access to MyRoadTM
  • Student Search Service®:  A program that lets students receive free information from colleges, universities, and scholarship programs.
  • Score Report Plus:  comprehensive skills feedback and suggestions for improving specific academic skills.

PSAT/NMSQT is a way to encourage your child to start thinking about life after high school:

  • Help with curriculum planning to realize you child's specific career goals
  • Information and resources you need to help your child prepare to perform his or her best on the SAT
  • Practical advice and online tools to find the right college for your child's needs and goals

For more information about your school's PSAT/NMSQT administration, please talk to you student's school counseler.
