    CHESS CLUB / EXTENDED STUDY TIME

    Mission: To teach Crossland High School scholars how to master the game of chess. Scholars will learn skills such as discipline, dedication and strategic thinking. Students who which to take advantage of "extended study time" in the Media Center can see Mr. Navas for an afternoon pass.

    Meets: Every Thursday from 2:45 to 4:00pm in the Media Center

    Qualifications for Membership: Membership in The Crossland Chess Club is open to any person with an interest in chess, regardless of his/her experience or playing ability.

    CHOIR

    Mission: The vocal ensemble is frequently called upon to perform for the community and the school. Therefore extra rehearsals and performances will be required of the choirs outside of school hours.  The additional time will be relative to the number of performances.  Students will be given reasonable notice in advance of these schedule activities.  In order to fulfill the class requirements vocal music students must be willing to participate in all of the scheduled rehearsals and performances.

    Meetings: Classes meet on B days 1st and 2nd periods and Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays after school.
     

    Qualifications for Membership: For Concert choir one must audition and must have sung in choir(s) prior to joining.  Mixed choir   is for those students who express a desire to sing and master the vocal techniques. Gospel choir is auditions as well and usually student ran with me (Mr. Daggett) as advisor.

    DRAMA & BROADCASTING CLUB  

    Mission: Drama will bring several benefits. Students will build confidence, will come to know more about themselves, their weakness and strengths, talents, and the effect on those around them. students will learn to understand others better.  An actor MUST become a student of human nature in  order to present a truthful and realistic performance.   Students in dram will partnership with local Theater aggregations such as : The Shakespeare Theater, The Kennedy Center, Wolf Trap and the Arena Stage. 

     

    Meetings: DRAMA meets on A days during periods 1 and 2.  Drama 1, 2, & 3 meet during 3A and 4B. After school rehearsal are usually on Mondays or when called.

     

    Qualifications for membership: Must have a 2.0 GPA or higher with no "E's"

    CROSSLAND H.S. DANCE COMPANY (CHSDC) Fire and Ice Band Dancers & Flag Twirlers 

    Mission Statement and Objective - To promote self-awareness, self-respect, and respect for others by encompassing unity, uniformity, and family while maintaining a high level of academic competence. 

    Meetings - Practice is normally 2:30pm to 5:30pm. Students will dress for practice from 2:30pm-2:45pm, and will participate in study hall from 2:45pm-3:30pm. Dance practice will run from 3:30pm-5:30pm; unless otherwise announced during the morning announcements or other form of communication.

     

    Qualification for Membership - Must have a 2.5 GPA or higher with no "Es"

    Mission: The International Club works to celebrate and to promote the understanding of diverse cultures, languages, and heritages, in our school, the local community, and beyond. We take a minimum of one field trip each year either local or international based on funds.

    SKILLS USA

    Skills USA Mission Statement: Skills USA mission is to empower it's members to become world-class workers, leaders, and responsible American citizens.

    Qualifications: Dues and Deadlines - SkillsUSA national dues are $8 plus state dues, which vary. For instructors, national dues are $14 plus state dues, which vary. The national membership deadline is March 3 of each year, but many state deadlines fall earlier. Student is recommended to apply to any of the schools Technical Academy Programs and maintain a 2.0 GPA. Local dues for Crossland chapter is $10.00.

    STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION

    SGA/Class Officer Elections are upon us. Applications are due May 26, 2015. Students will present speeches during a grade level assembly and voting will take place immediately following the election.

     Mission Statement: The Student Government has a mission to serve as a forum for varying student viewpoints, to stimulate interest in student government throughout the school, to promote the continual improvement of inter-school relations, to act on behalf of students in relations with educational, and to aid in the improvement of the Crossland High School.
