PGCPS Students Go for the Olympic Gold

BACKGROUND:

In partnership with the national Special Olympics organization, Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) is hosting the Special Olympics Spring Games. More than 700 student-athletes will each participate in one track and one field event. They can select from the 50/100/200-meter dash, wheelchair race (for students with orthopedic disabilities), running and standing long jumps, high jump, shot put, turbo javelin, and softball and tennis ball throws. 

 

Student-athletes have been training for eight weeks in preparation for this event, working hard with PGCPS adaptive and general physical education teachers who coach them at their schools and Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission sites.
