PGCPS Receives Distinguished Budget Presentation Award

UPPER MARLBORO, MD--For the third straight year, Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).
The award honors government bodies and staff that exhibit the highest principles in budgeting, according to nationally-recognized standards. The guidelines are designed to assess how well the budget serves as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications device.
PGCPS also received special recognition for its performance measures. Out of 1,300 budgets submitted for review, fewer than 20 received the performance measures distinction. The award is for the 2012 annual budget, which began July 1. A certificate of recognition will also be presented to the Office of Budget and Management Services.
Last fall, PGCPS received the GFOA Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
GFOA serves more than 17,000 government finance professionals. The Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
