Monday, March 2, 2015 - Code Orange - Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) – Schools and offices will open with a two hour delay. EMERGENCY PERSONNEL must report to work on time and are not eligible for liberal leave. (Las escuelas comenzarån dos horas después del horario normal.)

  • There will be NO work-study transportation. (Those students should NOT report to school.)

  • There will be no half-day Early Childhood Center (ECC), half-day Special Education Programs, or half-day PreK.

  • Any other school program requiring transportation prior to 12 noon will NOT have transportation, including Howard B. Owens Science Center

  • All field trips will be canceled.

  • Food Services will offer breakfast.

Statement from Prince George’s County Public Schools regarding the Newtown, Connecticut school shooting incident:

“Our hearts go out to the students, teachers, parents and families affected by today’s tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut. Schools are safe havens for our children. As a society, we must come together to ensure that this type of callous incident does not happen again.”

Background: Prince George’s County Public Schools firmly believe that schools are safe havens for our children. In June, our school system conducted an “active shooter” drill in conjunction with our local law enforcement authorities. Staff members have also received reminders regarding school safety. We have increase security around our schools as a precaution. The safety and protection of our students is core to our mission.
