Lunch week
BELTSVILLE, MD – In celebration of National School Lunch Week, PGCPS Food and Nutrition Services held a taste test for approximately 80 Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School students on October 17.

Students had the opportunity to sample and provide feedback on the new beef and bean burrito. The burrito is enclosed in a whole grain tortilla shell, which is low in sodium and does not include any trans fat.

“They had the opportunity to help select a healthier option for our menu,” said Karen Lide, Area 1 Supervisor, Food and Nutrition Services.

The feedback from students was positive, and the burrito may be an added attraction to the lunch menu across the district.

“Today’s event was great. The students enjoyed the burrito and provided great feedback that will hopefully add the burrito to the lunch menu soon,” said Aaron Galie, Assistant Principal, Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School.

Students were provided healthy food facts, crossword puzzles, bracelets, pencils and key chains for their participation. Students also had the opportunity to participate in a raffle of a $10 gift certificate, Sanjana George, a 7th grader, was the winner.
