UPPER MARLBORO, MD – Pointer Ridge Elementary School celebrated its upgraded playground today by hosting a special ribbon-cutting ceremony for the community. The school’s playground recently received a new blacktop surface, thanks to the efforts of Bowie City Council Member Isaac C. Trouth.

“We greatly appreciate Council Member Trouth’s support in Board District 5,” said Verjeana M. Jacobs, Esq., Chair of the Prince George’s County Board of Education. “Community partnerships play an important role in providing schools with additional resources when school districts face challenging economic times.”

Jacobs and Trouth were joined during the event by Senator JJ Peters; Diane Polangin, Mayor Pro Tem for the City of Bowie; Altmann Pannell, representive for County Council Member Ingrid Turner; Rufus R. Little, III Vice President of Kappa Alpha Psi; Richard Lucas, Vice President, Bowie State University; Walt Kirkland, President, 100 Black Men; Jeffrey Smith, Vice President, Ternbery Homeowner’s Association; Pointer Ridge principal Mary Stephenson; and Berdenia Stanley, Coordinating Secretary, Pointer Ridge
Elementary School PTA.

To fund the playground upgrades, Trouth donated his City Council salary and worked with State Sen. Douglas J.J. Peters and the Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation of Maryland, Inc., to raise grant and matching funds for upgrades to the school’s playground, including resurfacing the playground’s blacktop area. Funds will also be used for improvements at Bowie High School.
