LAUREL, MD—Ongoing renovations and improvements at Laurel Elementary School will require all students, with the exception of pre-K, to be
temporarily relocated to Greenbelt Middle School for the first few weeks of
school. The Pre-K
classes will be temporarily located at Scotchtown Hills Elementary School.
Starting Monday, Aug. 20, students will take their regular buses
or walk to Laurel Elementary School and arrive by 7:45 a.m., the normal bell time.
From there, they will board buses at the Laurel Armory – Anderson & Murphy Community Center, located at 422 Montgomery Street, and travel to Greenbelt Middle School. Pre-K students will be
taken to nearby Scotchtown Hills Elementary and will return home mid-day on
their regular buses.
Other students will board their regular buses at Greenbelt
Middle School to travel home at 1:45 p.m. Walkers and students in day care or
extended care will be taken by bus back to Laurel Elementary.
“The renovations at Laurel Elementary will result in a
state-of-the-art facility. We will ensure that students and families experience
minimal disruption during this temporary relocation,” said Dr. William R. Hite,
Superintendent of Schools. “Although the work is taking a bit longer than
expected, once it is finished, this will be one of the best-looking schools in
the county. School staff members are in the process of calling each
family. We appreciate parents’ patience and
willingness to work with us.”
