Eleanor Roosevelt Grads Receive National Achievement and Merit Scholarships

NMSC Scholarship Winners
UPPER MARLBORO, MD – Seven graduates from Eleanor Roosevelt High School’s Class of 2012 were winners in the 2012 National Achievement and National Merit scholarship programs.

More than 160,000 outstanding African American high school seniors competed for National Achievement Scholarships, and 800 finalists will share awards totaling over $2 million. Approximately 15,000 students nationwide met finalist requirements for National Merit Scholarships, and nearly 8,300 have been selected to receive scholarships totaling over $35 million.

“These students are among the best in our school district,” said Dr. William R. Hite, Superintendent of Schools. “Students begin the competition process for these awards as high school juniors, then go through a rigorous selection process. They are to be commended for their efforts.”

The following graduates will receive $2,500 National Achievement Scholarships from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC):
• Sebastien Anderson
• Taryn Harris
• Caitlan Moore
• Randi Williams
• Amber Youhouse-Clark

The following graduates received college-sponsored National Merit Scholarships, which provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years:
• Anna Flynn, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
• Patrick Healey, University of Maryland
