BACKGROUND:Approximately 270 JROTC cadets representing
nearly every public high school in Prince George’s County will take on the
challenge of the school system’s annual Cadet’s Officers Leadership Program
(COLP). Special guests from the armed forces have been invited to visit on VIP
Day to greet cadets, tour the site and observe the program in action.
COLP takes place in the rural setting of the
William S. Schmidt Outdoor Education Center, and is designed to prepare second
and third year cadets for leadership positions within their JROTC units. The
camp challenges cadets both mentally and physically, and develops their
abilities to lead, follow and apply newly-acquired skills in practical
situations.
