UPPER MARLBORO, MD -- Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) honor roll students representing 24 schools throughout the county were celebrated during the annual end-of-the-year Scholar Dollar Awards Ceremony at The Mall at Prince Georges.

“These students are among the top scholars at their schools,” said Dr. William R. Hite, Superintendent of Schools. “They have worked diligently throughout the school year, and I am proud of their achievements.”

The Scholar Dollar Program was created in 2006 through a joint effort of the Prince George’s County Executive’s Office and PGCPS. Through partnerships with The Mall at Prince Georges and The Centre at Forestville, students received special discounts and incentives at the end of each grading quarter for earning a 3.0 GPA, making honor roll, or other significant academic achievement.

During the fourth-quarter awards ceremony, students selected through a drawing were presented with “grand prize” gift cards. Five students from each quarter received $100 gift cards, and one student from each quarter received a $250 gift card. To date, more than one million students have been rewarded through the program.
