UPPER MARLBORO, MD -- Keeping up with Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) just got easier with the release of a new app for mobile devices.

The free app – one of the few of its kind among Maryland school systems – features mobile-friendly school search tools and calendars, top news, athletic schedules, breakfast and lunch menus, in addition to links to PGCPS photo and video galleries, and social media sites. It is available for download on iTunes for iPhone and iPad users.

“About 25 percent of our users visit the PGCPS website using a mobile phone or other device,” said Dr. William R. Hite, Superintendent of Schools. “This app will give them quicker access to our most popular feature. We believe this is a giant step forward in this digital age.”

Plans are underway to create a version for Android phones.

Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS), one of the nation's 25 largest school districts, has 208 schools and centers, more than 130,000 students and nearly 19,000 employees. Under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer Dr. Kevin M. Maxwell, the school system serves a diverse student population from urban, suburban and rural communities located in the Washington, DC suburbs. PGCPS is nationally recognized for innovative programs and initiatives that provide students with unique learning opportunities, including arts integration, environmental and financial literacy, and language immersion.
