‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ Author visits Potomac Landing Elementary School

FORT WASHINGTON -- In celebration of American Education Week, students at Potomac Landing Elementary School welcomed “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” author and illustrator -- and alum -- Jeff Kinney.

“I always wanted to come back to my former elementary school as an adult. The school and teachers have inspired me to do what I’m doing now,” Kinney said.

Kinney discussed growing up in Fort Washington and how he became a writer and illustrator. Students asked him about his childhood experiences and the inspiration for developing his New York Times-bestselling book.

“‘The Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ is a fiction, but the setting has always been Ft. Washington for me,” he said.

Kinney released “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” in April 2007. To date, the online version of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” has more than 80 million visits,. The book, which was made into a movie last year, is typically read by more than 70,000 kids a day.  For more information, visit www.wimpykid.com.
