PGCPS Hosts Training to Prepare New Teachers for the Classroom

Nearly 100 new teachers coming to classrooms this fall in Prince George's County public schools will take part in the school district’s annual PEIP (Professional Educator Induction Program) from August 8-10 at Dr Henry A. Wise Jr. High School in Upper Marlboro. Hosted by the Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) Office of Talent Development, the two-day training will assist new teachers in developing skills and understanding in implementing school system programs and curricula. 

“PEIP is just one of the many strategies we use to provide training and support to our teachers,” said Dr. William R Hite, Jr., Superintendent of Schools. “The goal of this training is to build a foundation of knowledge specific to our district, while helping to facilitate the development of a professional network and support system for new teachers.” 

Teachers come to PGCPS classrooms from a variety of sources. This year’s attendees include teachers from the Resident Teacher program, teachers recruited through the Teach for America initiative, new teacher hires from other school districts, and teachers returning to the classroom from non-classroom positions. Participants will take part in sessions that will build skills and competencies needed to experience success in the classroom; increase the use of effective, research-based instructional practices; and help develop plans to guide them in the process of lifelong learning and reflective practice.
