Maryland Teacher of the Year

The Maryland Teacher of the Year Program recognizes the work being done by the state's outstanding teachers. Drawing from a pool of nominees representing each county, one individual teacher is selected for the honor of representing Maryland in the National Teacher of the Year competition.

For eligibilty and nomination process information, please review the Prince George's County TOTY 09 Brochure.

Be sure to include Part I of the TOTY 09-10 Application Form and submit with the nomination items listed in the brochure.

Nomination Deadline - Friday, March 13, 2009, 4:30 p.m.

Teacher of the Year Student Essay Contest!
To honor and celebrate the Prince George's County Teacher of the Year, the Department of Publicity and Publications will sponsor an essay contest for students in grades 3 through 12 with the theme, "My Teacher Makes a Difference In My Life Because..." The deadline for submissions is March 27, 2009.

The winner of the essay contest will read their winning entry during the Prince George's County Teacher of the Year celebration at the Newton White Mansion on April 21. Background - The Maryland Teacher of the Year Program recognizes the work being done by the state's outstanding teachers. Drawing from a pool of nominees representing each county, one individual teacher is selected for the honor of representing Maryland in the National Teacher of the Year competition.

Eligibility - Nominees must be full-time classroom, resource, or media teachers that spend 90% or more of each school day teaching and have completed a minimum of five years teaching prior to their nomination. Nominees should enjoy public speaking and be comfortable assuming the role of spokesperson for the education profession.

Nomination Deadline - Friday, February 29, 2008, 4:30 p.m.
